WHAT’S THE STORY?: Mr Fogg has that strange “I love myself” Chris Martin vocal talent about him, hitting the high notes without any problem much like his shaggy-faced miserablist compadre. Luckily, he’s not as easy to hate, because the lyrics are superb and he’s got a kind face.

On top of that, the percussion-driven ethic this work carries – much like a lot of his other tunes, such as ‘Keep Your Teeth Sharp’ – is really quite good. The electronic chimes employed to carry the tune along are borderline twee, particularly when combined with Fogg’s clear-as-crystal vocals, but the dramatic organ gives it a second level of emotion; it’s actually pretty sad.

Admittedly, ‘Answerphone’ is rather unsurprisingly about a man who promises he’ll pick up his phone this time around, instead of letting it go through to voicemail; Fogg certainly gets his money’s worth out of the basic point to make.

Probably the only real criticism of the song is that you always expect it to ramp up the emotion just one extra notch; sadly, it never fully converts in this respect, making it a step away from greatness. Still, it’s a strong effort.

Check out the video, too; it’s unique. It’s not exactly OK Go, but it’s a nice little film, even if it feels a bit more of a publicity stunt than anything else.

SOUNDS LIKE: Early Coldplay. That’s about it, really.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You like Coldplay. Did I mention this sounds a lot like Coldplay?
