Mum Locked In Castle – Lions Led

NAME: Mum Locked In Castle
ALBUM: Lions Led
DATE: 25October2010

LABEL: Medium Rare Records

FIVE WORD REVIEW: A riveting exhibition of diversity.

LOCATION: Scarborough, England.

LINE UP: Ben Sullivan (vocals), Joe Wilson (drums), Andy `Gfunk’ (bass), Dan Whinney (guitar).

WHAT’S THE STORY?: `Forgotten Prayer’ initially starts as a vivacious serving of hard-rock, before flirting with hardcore influences and finally closing with a flamenco-style guitar piece. Numerous bands have congealed unrelated music genres to no avail, but Mum Locked In Castle amalgamate their influences with resplendent expertise.

Title track, `Lions Led’ astutely magnifies the band’s refrain, juxtaposing abrasive vocals with ambitious instrumentation. Afterwards, ‘Milk’ and `Soft As Thorns’ display more experimentation, revealing that Mum Locked In Castle are also well-versed in the practice of prog-rock.

The E.P’s closer, `Wired’ is a soaring, all-encompassing piece of music that features all of their musical facets and cements the visionary style of these Scarborough boys.

Mum Locked In Castle’s explorative sound may baffle fans of popular rock. If you’re seeking conventional song structures, `Lions Led’ won’t quench your thirst. However, if you desire inventive and heavy music, Mum Locked In Castle will not disappoint.

SOUNDS LIKE: A figurative musical tourist trip, where you’re able to witness all the sights.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You admire the imagination of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Between The Buried And Me, but would prefer them if they lowered their intensity.
