Parry Ray – The Way I’m Wired

NAME: Parry Ray
ALBUM: The Way I’m Wired
DATE: 12July2010

LABEL: Unsigned

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Strength, elegance, class and simplicity.

LINE UP: Parry Ray

WHAT’S THE STORY?: The simplicity of the lyrics and arrangements of Parry Ray’s second studio album capture something difficult to find in modern music. Songs like ‘Picture Perfect’ and ‘The Moment Is Passed’ could hold their own between Billie Holiday’s version of ‘Summertime’ and Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘My Funny Valentine’. The only disappointments are the seventies porno opening to ‘Out Of The Water’, and the frankly bizarre accent Parry adopts on ‘Where Do You Start?’, a track that seems to have no place among the polished jazz the rest of the album offers.

SOUNDS LIKE: For the most part: timeless, sophisticated, jazz; though there are a few moments when the album begins to sound like Andrew Lloyd Webber had a hand in the writing.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: An unexpected cover version (it doesn’t get much more unexpected than the appearance Slipknot’s ‘Snuff’ makes on this album!), and women who could beat you up with out breaking a nail.
