Paul Weller – Wake Up The Nation / No Tears to Cry

NAME: Paul Weller
SINGLE: Wake Up The Nation / No Tears to Cry
YEAR: 2010 (April 12th)
LABEL: Island Records
RATING: 5/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Good as he’s ever been.

LOCATION: London, England

LINE UP: Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton

WHAT’S THE STORY?: ‘Wake up the Nation’ – released as a double A single with ‘No Tears to Cry’ – is a stellar example of Paul Weller’s constant musical experimentation which has played a huge part in his solo career over the years. Twenty-eight years after the split of The Jam, both tracks feature bassist Bruce Foxton. With his classic mod-intro, and some orchestral samples thrown in for good measure, ‘Wake Up The Nation’ offers a mixture of busy, layered up sounds which create the comfiest of beds for his infamous vocal talents. A catchy offer, which is sure to delight any Weller fan. To top it off, the man himself is also on board to play a 5-day residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May.

SOUNDS LIKE: Paul Weller. D’uh.
