Pete Roe – The Merry-Go-Round

NAME: Pete Roe
EP: The Merry-Go-Round
DATE: 7June2010

LABEL: Communion

RATING: 2/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Nothing out of the ordinary

LOCATION: London

LINE UP: Pete Roe

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Another perfectly competent musician producing perfectly nice music that is all perfectly nice. Yawn. The Merry-Go-Round is yet another type of Damien Rice-y, soft and gentle acoustic guitar stuff. All four tracks of the EP are like this. And it’s all very sweet and pretty, but there’s nothing to mark it out as particularly attention-grabbing or earth-shattering. As such, no matter how easy to listen to it is, or fine for background music, it simply won’t do very well. It should get a higher mark for its competence, but the fact is one gets bored of mediocrity. As nice as the mediocrity is.

SOUNDS LIKE: Every other gentle-acoustic-guitar stuff produced over the last few years

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: listening to music that you’ll never remember.
