WHAT’S THE STORY?: ‘Mindfighter’ is exactly that really, it instigates a fight with your own mind. Not for the faint hearted, the first track from this EP benefits greatly from the soft vocals that accompany it, though the beat tends to bubble along in a rigid motion. Very computerized, this is electronica in its purest form with memorable digital sounds and protective bass lines. However the second track ‘Vector’ doesn’t keep up the same urgency and is almost placid in comparison. The intro is too long and it builds you up to something that doesn’t quite deliver. The third track ‘Escape Sequence’ is more of the same. If the ambience and energy of the first track could’ve been brought across to the other two, then it would’ve enhanced this EP greatly. As it stands it’s an ok effort with ‘Mindfighter’ being the stand out track. Retrograde are in the process of releasing a total of three EPs which will be the basis of their debut LP, to be called ‘Motion’; still a very good electronic DJ producing duo.
