Richard Ashcroft and the United Nations of Sound – United Nations of Sound
July 12, 2010 by David Houssein
NAME: Richard Ashcroft and the United Nations of Sound
ALBUM: United Nations of Sound
DATE: 19July2010
LABEL: Parlophone
RATING: 3/5
FIVE WORD REVIEW: He’s still got it, kinda…
LOCATION: North West, UK
LINE UP: Richard Ashcroft (vocals) / (guitar) / (bass) / (drums)
WHAT’S THE STORY?: Whenever a big name from the past drops on RHV’s doormat, we often slap our forehead and scream “please don’t do a wee on the legacy” before nervously giving the bitch a spin. On this occasion, Richard Ashcroft has pulled it out of the bag.
SOUNDS LIKE: Imagine if back in the 90s The Verve had even more soul and occasionally went experimental, you’d have a pretty good idea what this is about. More than making up for the shambolic revival of The Verve, young Richie and friends are on the money this time around. Single ‘Are You Ready?’ chirpy and uplifting while ‘Born Again’ is almost gospel. The only disappointment is the inconsistency, but that won’t put off fans of Mr. Ashcroft.
YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: The Verve and Oasis.
