Soundgarden – Telephantism

NAME: Soundgarden
ALBUM: Telephantism
DATE: 27September2010

LABEL: A&M/Universal Music Group

FIVE WORD REVIEW: The ideal Soundgarden welcome package.

LOCATION: Seattle, Washington, USA

LINE UP: Chris Cornell (vocals), Kim Thayil (lead guitarist), Ben Shepherd (bass). Matt Cameron (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: It’s always difficult for bands to release compilation albums with any semblance of integrity, but with ‘Telephantism’, Soundgarden have offered their fans an audio chronicle of their career that should appease hardcore followers as well as newcomers.

‘Telephantism’ features two disks crammed with hits and live recordings from the grunge legends that span the breadth of their accomplished career. Obviously, `Black Hole Sun’ is present alongside other classics such as `Spoonman’, `Outshined’ and `My Wave’ but there is also room for less recognisable tracks, a la `Hunted Down’ and the newly released `Black Rain’.

As the majority of Telephantism is comprised of pre-existing material, fans of Chris Cornell and company will know exactly what to anticipate with this modified greatest hits collection. However, for those that are unfamiliar with the band’s style of brooding grunge, this 2 disk collection offers an ideal platform from which they can commence their following of Soundgarden.

SOUNDS LIKE: Pearl Jam,Hater.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You discovered Chris Cornell’s unique vocal style after his work in Audioslave, and wish to sample his superior early work with the iconic Soundgarden.
