Spirytus – Spirytus

NAME: Spirytus
ALBUM: Spirytus
YEAR: 2010 (June 14th)
LABEL: Bullet Ride
RATING: 3/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Unapologetic lads embrace mother metal

LOCATION: Nottingham, UK

LINE UP: Ryan Walton (vocals) / Andy K (lead guitars) / Ben Edis (bass) / Andy Burman (guitar) / Ben McAlonan (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Midlands-based quintet Spirytus are doubtlessly different from other metal bands out there on the periph – more melodic, cleverer, heavier than your average bear with a penchant for thundering chorii. ‘Heaven Hates You’ is the definite standout track here; proper metal that’s unmistakably English, the song charges around like a horse in a ball pit. However, being different just isn’t enough, and as a set, these songs are just a different avenue on the sprawling council estate of rock.

SOUNDS LIKE: Limp Bizkit’s edit room floor cuttings.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: heavy heavy tunes with not a lot of thought behind them. Like when you meet a pornstar – lovely to look at, but you know she’d let you down on closer inspection.
