Stephen Dale Petit – California

NAME: Stephen Dale Petit
SINGLE: California
DATE: 26July2010

LABEL: Universal Music

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Blues guitar meets rock rhythms

LINE UP: Stephen Dale Petit – guitar and vocals, and various other musicians and singers

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Stephen Dale Petit, one of the more recent leading lights in the international blues firmament releases a single in support of his new album, The Crave. The song is a roughly re-worked reading of Tupac Shakur’s ‘California love’ featuring distorted blues guitar, a heavy backbeat, and spirited backing vocals. Although there is nothing really new here, (Aerosmith and Run DMC did this type of thing before) it is still very well done, and should appeal to fans of both blues guitar, and hip hop and rap music. Stephen Dale Petit is gaining himself a lot of attention as a live draw, having recently played Glastonbury, and touring around the O2 venues, and the release of both California and The Crave should help to put him in a lot more houses.

SOUNDS LIKE: A very good blues guitarist adding something new to the mix.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: you want to see where an influential form of music, that is nearly a century old in its present form might be going in the future.
