Sweet Apple – Love and Desperation

NAME: Sweet Apple
ALBUM: Love and Desperation
YEAR: 2010 (April 19th)
LABEL: Tee Pee Records
RATING: 4/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Rock of life saving proportions.

LOCATION: Cleveland/Brattleboro/Amherst, Vermont
United States

LINE UP: J Mascis (vocals, drums, guitar) / Tim Parnin (guitar) / John Petkovic (vocals, guitar) / Dave Sweetapple (bass, vocals)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Sweet Apple is a collaborative effort from members of Dinosaur Jr., Witch and Cobra Verde who have created the album that arguably saved John Petkovic’s life. Despite the tragedy of its conception, the album is full of light hearted sentiment and heavy guitars, it doesn’t dwell on misfortune, just turns up the volume to drown it out.

SOUNDS LIKE: The best bits of the bands that built it, with some Dave Grohl worthy vocals chucked in for good measure.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Good friends, long drives and the odd self indulgent guitar solo.
