Teenagers In Tokyo – Peter Pan

NAME: Teenagers In Tokyo
SINGLE: Peter Pan
YEAR: 8th February
LABEL: Back Yard Recordings

FIVE WORD REVIEW: A haunting, indie dance hit.

LINE UP: Samantha Lim – Vocals, Miska Mandic – Keyboards, Linda Marigliano – Bass, Sophie McGuinn – Guitar, Rudy Udovich – Drums

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Four gals and one guy make a raucous post-punk anthem, which will move both your feet and your head.

SOUNDS LIKE: The theme of the day here is underground eighties, and this production has a suitably wooden feel. The airy drums pace alongside a hollow bass as front woman Samantha Lim sighs and whispers about childhood lost. The whole thing is bound together by the flakes of synth which creep around the mix in an ominous fashion. The Horrors offer their services with a gothic, lo-fi remix of the song, twitching and squeaking like a broken gameboy.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Joy Division, Gang of Four…any post-punk band that favoured galloping bass and sharp drumming.
