The Chemists – This City

NAME: The Chemists
SINGLE: This City
YEAR: 2010 (March 29th)
LABEL: Distillers Records
RATING: 2/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Scuzzy indie-pop without inspirational kick.

LOCATION: Bristol

LINE UP: Johnny Benn (vocals), Sam James (lead guitar), Wayne Jones (bass), Dave Betts (rhythm guitar) and Matt Albon (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: Bristolian quintet who burst out of the south west rock scene with the prime aim of winning favour in both the NME and Kerrang! camps.

SOUNDS LIKE: Sadly none of the musical thrones they hope to be pretenders to (Queens Of The Stone Age, Doves, Pixes) – instead these second-rate purveyors of alt-rock fall between both stools lacking an identity of their own.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Garage rock with no thrills or spills.
