THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM – THE 59′ SOUND

Name: THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM
Release: THE 59′ SOUND
Label: SIDE ONE DUMMY
Year: 2009
Rating: 4/5

It wouldn’t be a surprise if The Gaslight Anthem are the most overplayed band this summer – and to be honest, it would be justified if they were. Their latest single release, title track ‘The 59′ Sound’ will be heard rattling through the airwaves from the 15th June and will see the increasingly popular New Jersey quartet thrust further into public consciousness. With its amicable grunge rock n roll style it is without doubt a great summer song.

The chiming guitar and the gritty emotion of Brian Fallon’s vocals make The Gaslight Anthem an instantly likeable bunch and the catchy ‘The 59′ Sound’ is no exception. For those of you who like Indie and other mainstream bands of disputable ilk, you will embrace the US four-piece like a spliff on a come down. For those of you who prefer music to be more challenging, though you won’t be offended by TGA – at least not until its been overplayed – it won’t be long before you tire of them.

– Richard Oldale
