The Hedrons – One More Won’t Kill Us

Artist: The Hedrons
Album: One More Won’t Kill Us
Label: Measured Records
Year: 2007
Rating: 4/5

Bursting with passion and attitude, it’s easy to see how this cheeky, Glaswegian quartet have risen to fame in such little time. This band are young and inexperienced, yet they’ve already supported the legendary Alice In Chains and have a snowballing fan base. So does their debut album ‘One More Won’t Kill Us’ stand up to the hype and expectation?

‘Heatseeker’, the opening song, and first single to be taken from the album is catchy, straight forward Punk Rock that hits you right between the eyes, and even after a few short songs it would appear that expectation is going to be met. ‘I need you’ is simplistic, laced with catchy riffs and is even a little bit sexy as Tippi’s smooth voice warms the heart and will bring a smile to even the most miserable souls. ‘Falling Star’ follows similar structure, but is slightly marred by the irritating chorus of ‘Staaaaaaar’ in a monotonous voice.

There are three things that really strike me about The Hedrons; they’re not trying to sound like Hole, they’re not trying to sound American and they’re not trying to sound like men. The Hedrons are authentic and honest, and that deserves some admiration even if their music isn’t going to appeal to everyone. Criticisms are that they only know how to write one kind of song and seem reluctant to move out of the comfort zone, not to mention that “One More Won’t Kill Us” isn’t likely to age well. Still, worth a listen.
