The Liaison – Start From Scratch

NAME: The Liaison
ALBUM: Start From Scratch
DATE: 17January2011

FIVE WORD REVIEW: You Me At Six? Wait…

LOCATION: Guildford, Surrey

LINE UP: Harvey – Lead Vocals, Zander – Guitar, Josh – Bass, Ben – Guitar, Joe – Drums

WHAT’S THE STORY?: This E.P is a challenging release to analyse because of its clear promise and blatant unoriginality. ‘It’s So Clear’ is a pop-punk master class, though its structure borrows heavily from You Me At Six. In fact, The Liaison’s lead singer Harvey shares a striking vocal resemblance to YMA6 singer Josh Franceschi. For the impressionable teenagers of this world, that news will prompt an immediate MySpace hit, but more mature pop-punkers will not be caught out by the band’s derivative nature, which continues throughout the E.P.

Ultimately, Start From Scratch is a praiseworthy effort from The Liaison and will undoubtedly pull at the heartstrings of those that yearn for saccharine pop-punk. However, music fans wanting more individuality from their music may search elsewhere.

SOUNDS LIKE: You Me At Six, The Futures, The Maine.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You secretly adored Busted in 2002.
