The River Raid – In a Forest

NAME: The River Raid
ALBUM: In a Forest
DATE: 20September2010

LABEL: Above The Sky

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Apathetic garage rock from Brazil.

LINE UP: Pompi (vocals, guitar) , Praga (vocals, guitar) , Giba (guitars, synths) , Dudu (bass) , Pedrinho (drums, sampler)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: The River Raid’s debut album is apparently about looking after the forest… if you like your conservation diatribe subtle you’ll be pleased, if you can find one reference to cuddling badgers or spending quality time with the red squirrel you have an exceedingly subtle in… but it’s in there, apparently.
So, beyond the fact that The River Raid think forests are nice, what else does the album have to offer? There’s some quite pleasant surfy guitar in places, but the vocals are become a monotone dirge after a couple of songs, and almost every track ends abruptly giving the album an unpolished feel.

SOUNDS LIKE: A lot of heart, lost in the delivery.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: If you like handsome Brazilian men with endearing accents… who like the forest.
