Tina Lie – Free Enough to Fall

NAME: Tina Lie
ALBUM: Free Enough to Fall
DATE: 26July2010

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Bluesy, Country rocky retro melange.

LINE UP: Tina Lie, Vocals, Ronny Odegaard – keyboards, Lew Lergrud – bass, acoustic guitars, backing vocals, Per Tormod Strand – electric and acoustic guitars, Brede Vestby electric guitar, Geir Holton – drums.

WHAT’S THE STORY?: After storming live success, with her blend of country, rock, blues and gospel music, Tina Lie has launched her latest album – ‘Free Enough to Fall’. It mixes some of the mojo of The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Janis Joplin, with a song writing talent close the 1970’s Laurel Canyon sound. A succesful and best selling touring artist, Tina Lie and her band have honed their sound by putting in hours on the road, and in the studio, to produce an album of fine quality songs and musicianship. A native of Norway, the album is full of bluesy and americana influences, mixed with a band who know the requisite backing to Tina Lie’s distinctive vocals. Most of the songs are the singers own, accept for the obligatory Dylan cover, in ‘Do Right to me Baby’. It starts with the slide guitar decorated ‘Black Swan’ and continues with the rock blues of ‘Twilight Hour’. As well as the forceful songs, the release also includes softer ballads, which show the sensitivity of both singer and band, and pieces such as ‘Gambling with the Stars’ and album closer ‘Winter Moon’ are fine songs.

SOUNDS LIKE: A female fronted mid era Rolling Stones.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: you like Janis Joplin, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, etc.
