Violent Soho – Jesus Stole My Girlfriend (Dillinger Escape Plan remix)

NAME: Violent Soho
SINGLE: Jesus Stole My Girlfriend (Dillinger Escape Plan remix)
DATE: 26July2010

LABEL: Ecstatic Peace!

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Unconventional adaptation of Aussie grungers

LOCATION: Brisbane, Australia

LINE UP: Luke Boerdam (guitar, vocals), James Tidswell (guitar, vocals), Luke Henery (bass), Michael Richards (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: To accompany his role in math-core merchants, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Ben Weinman has crafted a solo career as a gifted remix artist.

Thrice and Bring Me The Horizon have previously permitted Weinman to remix their tracks. Now, the DEP man has turned his attention to the Australian grunge act, Violent Soho.

Ordinarily, `Jesus Stole My Girlfriend’ is a brooding grunge track that has triggered countless Nirvana comparisons. However, Weinman has morphed the single into a deceptively heavy electronica offering that bears only lyrical resemblance to the original.

This remix may alienate followers of Violent Soho, but it’s a consummate example of raucous electronica that will please open-minded listeners.

SOUNDS LIKE: The Prodigy, Pitchshifter

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You’re a fan of electronica; or fascinated by the continuous wave of digitally composed music
