We The Kings – Smile Kid

NAME: We The Kings
ALBUM: Smile Kid
YEAR: 2010 (March 15th)
LABEL: S-curve
RATING: 2/5

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Sickly but annoyingly catchy cheese.

LOCATION: Bradenton, Florida

LINE UP: Travis Clark (Lead Vocals/Guitar) / Hunter Thomsen (Guitar/Back-up vocals) / Drew Thomsen (bass) / Danny Duncan (drums)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: The second offering from Florida’s We The Kings is sickly sweet with a ridiculous overuse of antonyms: laugh cry, up, down, high, low, stay, go, ending, beginning, sunshine, rain. This dizzying bonanza of opposites coupled with the single ‘We’ll Be A Dream’, featuring Disney’s Demi Lovato, smells a little too strongly of middle-class teenage angst. Nevertheless a couple of the songs (namely ‘Spin’ and ‘She Takes me High’) are undeniably catchy and the band will no doubt win the hearts and minds of teenage girls up and down the country.

SOUNDS LIKE: The Jonas Brothers lost their virginity, gave up having their hair cut professionally and started drinking beer.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF YOU LIKE: Being a fifteen year old girl, Dashboard Confessional and Fall Out Boy.
