Witchery – Witchkrieg

NAME: Witchery
ALBUM: Witchkrieg
DATE: 21June2010

LABEL: Century Media

FIVE WORD REVIEW: Ball kicking, for the ears.

LINE UP: Rickard Rimfält (guitars), Sharlee D’Angelo (bass), Martin Axe (drums), Legion (vocals)

WHAT’S THE STORY?: At risk of sounding like my granddad this album is just a little bit too noisy. There’s too much going on at once, the guitars, the drums, the inevitable beat-downs, the pig squealing, the lyrics about falling down from hell (it should really be up), are all so loud that it’s difficult to decipher any sort of rhythm or tune. The only relief from this comes in the form of a few Slash-esque guitar solos.

SOUNDS LIKE: When you drink too much red bull and your heart goes all poundy and you get a bit paranoid and shaky.

YOU’LL LIKE THIS IF: You don’t mind the lack of any semblance of melody in your music, or if you’re able to think of Witchery’s music as very angry poetry set to very angry drumming.
