It’s Friday night and the Electric Ballroom is rammed to capacity. Yet, whilst people struggle to squeeze into the main hall to catch a decent view of Los Angeles heavy metal group In This Moment, the crowd is mesmerised by lead singer Maria Brink as her 10 foot white wings float aloft, flanked by some seriously mean looking guitarists. Although they are decidedly heavier and perhaps a strange choice for support of Halestorm, In This Moment work the packed Ballroom into a frenzy and have the crowd eating out the palm of their hand by the end of their short set.
Halestorm drummer Arejay Hale takes the stage first, shortly followed by bassist Josh Smith and guitarist Joe Hottinger. The band kick in as star of the show frontwoman Lzzy runs on stage and wastes no time before launching into their first number. Clear highlights of the show are their Grammy winning hit ‘Love Bites (So Do I)’ along with their cover of Guns’n’Roses ‘Out Ta Get Me’. The Pennsylvanian quartet play for around an hour but it feels like half that as the venue is jumping and the army of Halestorm fans laps up every second. Closing with ‘I Miss The Misery’, Halestorm have kicked the weekend off to a great start…
