FIVE WORD REVIEW: Something promising for the future?!

MAIN REVIEW: Whilst emo, screamo, indie and electro throbs across venues throughout the UK, Islington Academy is tonight playing host to what we all really want to be listening to: some decent rock. Having supported Velvet Revolver and opened Download Festival in 2007, this Brit trio are making decent progress on paper. Yet, the expectant chanting pre-gig and thunderous cheering throughout-gig are testament that these lads deliver what their fans want.

Vocalist/bassist Chris Glithero could be mistaken for Kurt Cobain from a parallel universe: well-fed, with tribal tattoos and a wardrobe by All Saints. Despite, he easily pulls off the enigmatic frontman role, and all eyes are drawn to him. Meanwhile, guitarist Paul Frost bears an uncanny resemblance to a 1996 Marilyn Manson, whilst sticksman Oli Middleton could be confused with a Slash impersonator. Still, enough with the lookalike competition…

They plough through anthemic numbers from their ‘Food’ album and last year’s EP, ‘These Birds Will Kill Us’, allowing the venue to erupt into a violently merry moshpit, beer sloshing all around, and sweaty bodies crashing against each other. For a tiny venue, Zico Chain cook up a marvellous storm. Fans in Zico t-shirts pack against the stage in vain attempt to get as close to the three-piece as possible, hollering the chorus lines. This can mean one of two things: A) Zico Chain are a volcano waiting to explode. B) They’ve got very supportive friends and family.
